ABOUT ANDREW SAYERS
Andrew Sayers was a passionate supporter of Four Winds and generously donated four beautiful landscape paintings of the region to us. The works are being auctioned online only and, in keeping with Andrew’s wishes, the proceeds from their sale will be used to commission and perform new Australian music. For your chance to acquire one of these paintings please view and click on one of the images below, register and place your bid.
Andrew is perhaps better known as the inaugural Director of the National Portrait Gallery and Director of the National Museum of Australia, Canberra; however, from 2013 onwards, he focused on his career as an artist. Andrew showed his work for the first time publically, “off Broadway” as he explained, at Mister Jones in the heart of Bermagui. He was a finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize in 2014 and his first major solo exhibition, Nature Through the Glass of Time, was shown at Lauraine Diggins Fine Art, Melbourne.
Throughout his academic and professional life, Andrew explored his passion for painting. After leaving the Museum world he travelled to explore the landscape as a source of inspiration. He worked en plein air and found the medium of gouache perfect to reflect his acute observations of nature.
Andrew had a longstanding passion for the wild and natural places of Australia. He avidly journeyed along the coastal tracks from Mallacoota to Merimbula and beyond and found the south coast near Bermagui a source of inspiring and ever-changing scenery.
Andrew Sayers died in October 2015 but his achievements as curator, writer, director and artist remain.
Please help us to realise Andrew’s dream and, in the process, acquire one of his beautiful paintings of the Far South Coast of NSW. The auction ends on 15th April 2018.
